Qiviut Hat I made for my husband 18 - 20 years ago and yes I have the pattern if anyone would like it, the company is no longer in business so I don't see any copy-rite issues!

Thursday's snow.. we have a blizzard warning for tonight (sun feb 12) goody goody just what I want more snow!.

Happy Hallowe'en..... So pinkish ghosts don't work as a valentines present?  Pumpkins is a work in progress!

The car is the little red dot about 18 inches from the truck!

The light has just about disappeared and the snowplow ripped the end off the railing which is totally buried!

SNOW

Having a hard time posting without the weekly prompts..  12 days ago we had green grass ... then On Saturday Jan 24th we had snow...  Sunday was warm and it sort of melted.. enough to make everything icy... Then on Tues Jan 27 we had what was forecast as the storm of the century....  OK more snow ...  Then on Saturday Jan 31 we had a little Blizzard way more snow and wind than the storm of the century.... Sunday morning I jokingly said better go check the weather to see what time the next storm is starting...  HA HA Monday noonish... still yet more snow...  And the forecast for tonight is another 30 cm ( or 14 inches if you prefer Imperial!)

Guess what folks I don't like snow anymore!

This is a close to the same angle as the 2009 picture as I could get.. hard to see over the snow banks left by the plow truck!  The 2009 snow was wet most of this snow has been accompanied by blowing snow and frigid temps!

Year 2 ~ Week Six: Capture Color (COLOUR!)

Missed last week the first week I've missed in 13 months.....  I took the pictures ...should have posted on Saturday but got stuck in Toronto coming home from Tucson .. so had Valentine's dinner courtesy of AC.
A quick summary of the last 11 days, my fathers 90th birthday, my 25th wedding anniversary, a typical non event Valentines and the death of my mother this tuesday. (there will be a celebration of her life in may or june) not to mention a very long flight home from Tucson and as usual by the time I got home  I was sick from the airport, people, recycled airplane air.. who knows.... Being sick just added to an already strained February!

Allmost wordless Thursday & the BTW picture I forgot to put here!

I have been sorting beads recently and decided that I needed to revisit Stephanie Sersich's Spiny Knotted Bracelets.. the one on the left has lots of little lampwork beads, the Carmen Miranda wanna be is a collection of glass fruits and vintage lucite flowers that I've been collecting, hording over the years.  Love the grape button on the Carmen Miranda knock off!  (Took this picture yesterday... Put it on my FB page and forgot to put it here... but since I forgot you get this monrings roof pictures too!)

This is why the Gallery is temporarily closed for the season...  Although I'm hoping it comes down today.  The snow pack on the deck had dropped by over 30% in the last couple of days.... The deck will not be shovelled until the roof unloads it's snow! (It's a metal roof so can't put heating wires on it... at least I haven't found any that were suitable for metal!)  Snow move overnight as we at 1.5 mm rain....

Spring storm

3 days after the storm....  The weather man gave us an April Fools gift 8 -10 inches of incredibly sloppy wet heavy snow... Poor little croci!

Garbage and more garbage....

Well I'm home from operation clean sweep... think I wore the whorls off of my fingers packing and pitching... I found cupboards in that house I didn't know existed! You would not believe all the treasures that can be accumualted in 60 years... I have very good intentions to do some purging here after that trip... Will I ...Stay tuned, but don't hold your breath!


Pretty bad when the only pictures I took of the house were the piles of garbage the last day I was there. (that's 5 days of garbage and recycle) Actually the nearly empty house was too depressing.... AND that snow was totally unnecessary!

Mom & Dad have moved into a Seniors condo complex in Edmonton close to where my sister lives. Even with the piles of 'treasures' left behind they moved for too many things for the 980 sq ft space they now inhabit... but by the time I left you could actually see the floor in all the rooms!

It's COld here!

OK Cold is relative I grew up in the prairies... when Canada still used Farenheit... School in the Canadian Prairies is NEVER cancelled unless a water main breaks! Buses quit running at -30 C that's -22 F, but the schools stay open... Kids who bus have to play catch up!

If it snows the buses might run late.. but they run and the schools are open! Here threat of snowflake and the schools are CLOSED... especaily if that threat is a monday or friday!

I've lived here for 9 years, Today is -15 C that's +5 F , That would have been a warm day in February in Alberta when I was growing up ... we still would have got to go out for recess!

After 9 years here I am now a wuss... granted the wind blowing off of the North Atlantic does have a major cooling effect... I think the air here is also more humid which makes it feel colder.... Can I hibernate until August?

My "title" is borrowed from the Miles Franklin Book My Brilliant Career .... How does an annual Christmas Dine around dinner become a 19 hour event... simple you live on an island... and the weather man is actually right for once! They forecast the blizzard to hit at 4 pm the snow started at 5 just as we drove off the ferry on the mainland... the winds were impressive way before 5! Not sure why they quit running the ferry at 8:30 last night but they did.... which left us on the wrong side of the water!

Diner was good G didn't think it was as good as previous years as his haddock almondine wasn't available.. but we did get the table in front of the fire at the Rossmount Inn for our hors-d'overes course... diner was at Europa Inn and desert was at the garden Cafe at Kingsbrae... they have the garden full of Christmas lights ... we did not walk around and admire the lights this year... we ran to the cafe past the 10 foot blow up Santa that was lyeing down on the job... fully inflated but flat on his back!

We spent the night in St George and got home at 11 am... G is still shovelling our driveway... This is looking like it may be a very long winter!

Snow

Maybe once it quits snowing here I can go out and make a cute little family of snowpeople... But right now the fog horn is blaring and the snow is falling and it's much to cold to make snowballs! I'm wondering what someone did to offend the weather gods...* Since we got home on November 4... I have been opening the gallery on saturdays.... We haven't had great weather the other 6 days of the week but Saturdays have been awful! Today it is snowing... yesterday was sunny and crisp... last saturday it poured rain....

I escaped to the Mainland yesterday... coming home in the ferry lineup my car brakes quit... It's a very disconcerting feeling when you are parked nose down on a hill.... I started the car with my foot on the brake... that foot sort of caught then went straight to the floor fortunately I drive a standard and was well behind the car in front... Poor Lizzy (my '95 Mustang) got parked on the other side of the ferry and I went running down the ferry ramp. Should be an interesting 15 minute drive (normal rural highway speeds) to the car repair place tomorrow if it's quit snowing and the snow is cleared no brakes and ice could be way too exciting for me! And yes there are hills including one with a stop sign at the bottom!

*BBC info on weather gods... I noticed that there are no weather gods for snow.. I wonder why?
