Almost wordless wednesday

Georgie is happily living in California now, where there is no snow..... although there is no snow here this year either at the moment... but I'm sure that will change :(

Today the forecast high is -8 C, the forecast low is -6C and the current temp is -14C... someone is rather confused!

More animals for "Old MacDonald"

For those of you who read yesterdays comments you will notice that there is a comment from a goat named Pricilla... she lives at the Happy Goat Farm in Montana... and her farm has been infested with CHICKENS!!! Poor Pricilla was most insulted that I would make chickens before I made goats.... I actually already had the goat in the kiln when she was complaining yesterday, however I'm not sure she will be pleased with the fact that I made Michael (her son) first ... as, I'm sure she figures that she is the most beautiful goat on the farm and I should be immortalizing her!

After all it is her milk that is used to make the Happy Goat Soap. And yes I realize that the horns are a bit wonky...

The wooden table was not a good background for my two tone lauscha glass pig.... (the glass is actually one of their Tri Colors....)

Old MacDonald's Farm

I have a knitted- felted red hat that I made a felted flower for... I thought the flower needed a button... I made a red and black flower for the hat... didn't like it... A couple of days ago I decided that a chicken would look nice.... well who can just make one chicken... I now have 3 chickens, 1 sheep, and a turtle... today Old Mac may get a pig to add to his/ her farm..

And yes on this farm all animals are exactly the same size!

Actually the sheep does have an eye but it's on the other side...

Heading home

Well I left WH friday noon and spent the night in Atlanta ... saturday I flew to Edmonton... on Delta... I got to the check in .. since I was flying internationally I was entitled to 2 free bags I had one... it weighed 51 pounds.. the Delta rep gave me a choice... are you going to loose a pound or PAY $150!!!! I had a book stuck in the front pocket of my suitcase which actually weighed 1 pound 6 oz so I removed the book and added it to my carry on... But $150 for being one pound over weight... (Canadian airlines let you have two free cases on all flights!!!!)

Edmonton is where I grew up but it certainly is not the direct route back to my little Island! Sunday Mother's day we all went out for brunch... then I helped my siter pull weeds and repile siding... gorgeous day! Yesterday was also a gorgeous day tomorrow it is suppose to snow here... goody goody!

Yesterday we went plant shopping, not much got planted though since it is suppose to freeze tonight ... Dad bought a bag of set onions and has a bunch left over I said I'd take some of them home.. he says I have to take them as carry on.. I figure security will confiscate them.... Let me know if you think I will get to keep them on my comments! Actually they may not even show up in the xray....

Thursday I'm suppose to fly to Toronto were G will meet me then we will head for home on Sunday... No pictures until I get home... this is a Mac and I'm Mac illiterate... I can figure out how to type on this computer and not much more!

All wrapped Up

All wrapped Up is the result of me playing with combining more than one piece/type of glass into my electroformed pieces.... I really like the way my large holed lampworked hearts have been turning out, so I thought I'd add a fused frit mask to them. I'm reallypleased with the way this piece turned out!

I'm thinking of making a copper chain maille chain for it... partly because the ring faces the wrong way for it to hang from a chain... so at the very least I have to add a ring... but it I'm making one ring why not make a few hundred....

This piece is currently listed on etsy... Who know when it's chain will show up!

Well it wasn't the TIm Horton's Briar...

But what ever it was we won! Yes I spent yesterday in a curling rink.... outside it was warm and sunny and the snow was melting.... what was I doing, chasing large blocks of granite up and down sheets of ice....

The prizes were all hidden in brown paper lunch bags... So the only benefit of winning was getting to pick first (and of course knowing that we won!) I surveyed the bags carefully and picked one that looked like it contained a box... I think the clock is actually quite nice... and I need a clock in my bead studio... Gord got a very tacky bunny It will probably get to live in his sock drawer! Poor bunny!

We woke up to more... NEW SNOW this morning...Now on twitter I commented that the snow replacement theory that is operating this winter is Einstein's theory of relativity WRONG even though I think E = MC2 would work with E being the melting snow, M being the new snow and C2 being the thickness of the layer of ice on top of the new snow!

This years snow fall is actually following Galileo's law of conservation of energy... where matter can not be created or destroyed... snow can no longer be destroyed! Every flake that melts will be replaced within 48 hours...

Beads

Friday I was suppose to do a demo on making beads at the local high School "Fundy High". But there was freezing rain over night and even though it was in the mid 50's (+13 C) by 9am, they canceled school because of the possibility that the roads were slippery. I think they just wanted a 3 day weekend!

After I was asked I had to learn how to use a hot head…. My first bead took about 30 minutes as I was holding the glass where I would hold it in the flame on my minor… On a hot head the glass needs to be about an inch from the torch… I still have to catch myself as the bead drifts back into the flame. I also offered to give each of the kids a free bead… there was only suppose to be 12 kids… final count was 30, so I spent all my torch time last week making free beads! Now I have 35 unloved handformed disc beads....

Not sure when the demo will be rescheduled as Friday is the last day of school before the Christmas break and hardly any of the high school kids bother to go to school … I made my son go every day that the school was open (evil mother!)… and he was absolutely mortified when he got an attendance award at the grade 12 awards night!

Guess it’s time to move my bead making thoughts onto hearts as Valentines is just around the corner!

Snow

Maybe once it quits snowing here I can go out and make a cute little family of snowpeople... But right now the fog horn is blaring and the snow is falling and it's much to cold to make snowballs! I'm wondering what someone did to offend the weather gods...* Since we got home on November 4... I have been opening the gallery on saturdays.... We haven't had great weather the other 6 days of the week but Saturdays have been awful! Today it is snowing... yesterday was sunny and crisp... last saturday it poured rain....

I escaped to the Mainland yesterday... coming home in the ferry lineup my car brakes quit... It's a very disconcerting feeling when you are parked nose down on a hill.... I started the car with my foot on the brake... that foot sort of caught then went straight to the floor fortunately I drive a standard and was well behind the car in front... Poor Lizzy (my '95 Mustang) got parked on the other side of the ferry and I went running down the ferry ramp. Should be an interesting 15 minute drive (normal rural highway speeds) to the car repair place tomorrow if it's quit snowing and the snow is cleared no brakes and ice could be way too exciting for me! And yes there are hills including one with a stop sign at the bottom!

*BBC info on weather gods... I noticed that there are no weather gods for snow.. I wonder why?
